Leeds United suffer crushing Pascal Struijk blow before match v Sheff Wed

Pascal Struijk will be out of action for Leeds United through injury for at least three weeks if not longer, Daniel Farke has confirmed.

Farke’s side face Sheffield Wednesday in local Championship action on Sunday (19 January) and the German will be keen for his side to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Though the Whites are in good form this term, they have drawn two league games in a row now meaning three points against Wednesday, would be a boost to get back on track.

However, Farke has revealed that his side will face a big injury blow as he said in his pre-match press conference: “One bad news is Pascal Struijk. He had a little awareness in his hamstring.

“He is out for three weeks. There is a small chance the tendon on the muscle is involved.

“Right now we assess it. If the tendon is involved, it could be three months.

“For the upcoming games, he won’t be available.

“He was able to train on Wednesday. We sent for a scan and it was a negative surprise for all of us.

“Definitely out for the next three weeks.”

Pascal Struijk injured for Leeds United

Struijk being unavailable for at least three weeks is a massive blow for the Whites as they look to get back into a run of winning form with the second half of the season ahead.

The Dutchman has been a core part of the Leeds squad this term and captained the side as they have continued to pick up excellent results to put them exactly where they want to be.

Despite being a defender, Struijk has also contributed three goals this term showing the contribution he has to his team at both ends of the field.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old has shown himself to be a leader throughout the squad which is exactly why Farke has been able to rely on him throughout the campaign.

Three weeks is the best-case scenario so the Whites will hope they can cope without him in this time while keeping their fingers tightly crossed that scans come back positive and don’t rule out the captain for the majority of the remaining campaign.

In other Leeds United news, a Premier League ace would be an “ideal” signing in the winter window.
