Leeds United striker transfer news as January premium now likely – Sky Sports pundit

Leeds United will likely have to cough up a January premium price for a new striker, according to Sky Sports pundit David Prutton.

A new centre-forward is definitely on the cards for Leeds United but finding the right one to match Jesse Marsch’s relentless style may be a tough ask in January.

Prutton confessed that because of Leeds’ dire need for a new forward, “god knows” how much they would have to pay a selling club in January.

“The January transfer window will also be here before we know it and I’d go along with the general consensus that another left back and striker option is what the club needs,” said Prutton as quoted by YEP.

“But how much would you have to pay for a striker in January in the Premier League with regards to a club that needs goals? Good luck with the premium on that.

“God knows and you are relying on how well you are scouting the world footballing market. But I have no idea what you would pay for a player in that position at this period of time when you are a club needing a player to score goals pretty sharpish.

“That then means that the selling club increases the premium on the transfer fee that we probably had in our heads.”

Pressure.

The pressure will certainly be on Victor Orta and co to find Leeds United a new centre-forward in January and anything less will be greeted with boos and jeers from Elland Road.

Orta’s scouting system seems to identify the right kind of talents usually, so this shouldn’t be an area of concern for the Whites moving into January.

Nevertheless, as Prutton highlighted, clubs will be able to smell Leeds’ need for a new centre-forward and this could tarnish any moves they make.

That combined with January being the more tricky window to get deals done anyway and Leeds may have a problem on their hands here.

Marsch will want a forward who is here to stay in the squad and must avoid a panic buy-gap-fill kind of signing, they never ever work out well.

Ultimately, a deal for a new forward should have been completed in the summer and this wouldn’t be a problem right now.

In other Leeds United news, a Premier League legend has made a move to sign this Leeds player ahead of January.
