Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford injury update emerges ahead of Chelsea clash

Javi Gracia has confirmed that Patrick Bamford has suffered a leg injury ahead of the Leeds United clash against Chelsea.

There were eyebrows raised when he was missing from the matchday squad with Georignio Rutter leading the line for the Whites.

It has been revealed that he’s suffered a knock and will perhaps be back in time for the game against Brighton next weekend.

“It’s something with his leg, and it’s better to protect him a little bit,” Gracia told Sky Sports. “We believe he should be ready for our next game.

“Yeah [we have struggled to score], but we work with confidence. All of our players need to be scoring goals, not only our strikers. That’s the only way to achieve our target at the end of the season.

“It’s something that all of our players must contribute, not just the strikers.”

Not again

Bamford misses far too many games for him to be relied upon as a regular starter for Leeds and Gracia will surely not be impressed.

Both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch waxed lyrical over him when he was in form, but would not have been happy at the number of games he misses.

We’re hoping that Rutter goes on to have a good game as he was bought for a club record fee to lead the line and be a solid goal scorer for the Whites.

He may not be Gracia’s signing, but he’s a talent who’s got sky-high potential and it’s about time he unleashes it in the Premier League.

Regarding Bamford, a key decision needs to be made in the summer as to whether or not he deserves to stay on at Elland Road.

There are younger strikers training hard who keep themselves fit and surely deserve a chance to prove their worth ahead of the Englishman.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
