Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt makes Sam Greenwood behind-the-scenes revelation

Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has admitted to sharing a tight off-the-field bond with youngster Sam Greenwood.

The Whites duo both play in the same position and have bonded on international duty with the England youth sides as well as when they both arrived in the same transfer window in 2020.

Greenwood was also seen to be the first man to join in the celebrations after Gelhardt’s goal at Stamford Bridge and the two are understood to be tight even behind the scenes.

Via LeedsLive, Gelhardt said, “We’ve got a really good relationship off the field.

“We’re always together and when we’re walking down people will say ‘ooo friends’ and take the mick out of us. We just get on well together and on the pitch, we’re always looking for each other and passing to each other and helping each other out and trying to score goals together, really.

“To be exposed to [the] first team in the Premier League with someone you’ve known for years, me and Sam knew each other from England four years ago, we’ve been mates for a long time and then to play in the Premier League together or see each other doing well is an unbelievable feeling.”

Fantastic bond

Rather than having enmity due to the competition for places, it’s glad to see the two youngsters helping each other out.

Gelhardt obviously has hit the ground running faster than Greenwood but that doesn’t mean that he can’t learn anything from him.

The way the two have progressed, we won’t be surprised if they’re first-team regulars in the next couple of years.

Leeds United

They get what it means to be a Leeds United player and the Elland Road faithful will certainly love to see them make it big in their careers.

Marcelo Bielsa must also be given credit for bringing about such a harmonious culture at Thorp Arch.

Hopefully, this continues under Jesse Marsch as well as the youngsters are the backbone of the team.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
