Leeds United starlet Crysencio Summerville earns praise from international boss

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville has earned praise from his international manager Erwin van de Looi.

The Whites youngster made his first start for Netherlands Under-21s on Monday and scored the first goal in a 7-0 demolition of Gibraltar.

It caps a promising few months for Summerville, who made his senior Leeds debut in September and has since made four Premier League appearances.

His performances attracted the attention of van de Looi, who was pleased with what he saw from the 20-year-old in yesterday’s match.

“You can see that a number of players are developing well and we are also getting stronger across the board,” the Dutch Under-21 boss said after the win.

“This time we had Wouter Burger, Crysencio Summerville and Micky van de Ven. Three new guys. They left a good impression on me.

“This means that the players who were there at the start are also put on edge.”

Exciting future

Summerville continues to go from strength to strength for club and country and all the signs point towards the winger having a strong career at the very top of the game.

After signing for Leeds from Feyenoord in the summer of 2020, he scored six goals and got six assists for the Under-21 side on the way to promotion to Premier League Two Division One during his debut campaign.

Opportunities have arisen in the first team this season, with Summerville being named in the matchday squad for all bar one of Leeds’ 11 Premier League games so far.

Apart from a start in the Carabao Cup against Fulham, all of the winger’s appearances have been substitute cameos but a goal on international duty will do his chances at Elland Road no harm indeed.

If Leeds continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table, Marcelo Bielsa could start calling on Summerville more regularly for some attacking inspiration.
