Leeds United star was once blasted as ‘really poor’, now he’s ‘sensational’ for Daniel Farke
Leeds United have made some incredible signings in recent seasons.
The 49ers have received criticism for how they have handled the transfer window in the build-up to United’s first season back in the top flight, but before that, not many people had their complaints.
Although Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka are currently out injured, both midfielders have been exceptional purchases for the club while they were in the Championship, and the duo will be pivotal in the Whites’ battle against relegation while they are in the Premier League.
Jayden Bogle is another one of the exceptional pieces of business conducted by the 49ers, as the right-back has become one of the most influential players under Daniel Farke.

Jayden Bogle was ‘really poor’ at the start of last season
Whilst some may have forgotten, Bogle was initially the subject of heavy criticism at Leeds after making the move from Sheffield United last summer.
The 25-year-old came with a reputation as an exceptional attacking full-back but one who often struggled defensively.
Early into his Leeds career, he displayed moments of defensive vulnerability that led to the Elland Road faithful being anxious that their new signing was, in fact, living up to this reputation of being a defensive liability.
During Leeds’ game against Blackburn last season in November, as the Whites lost 1-0, former Leeds defender Tony Dorigo was critical of the full-backs’ defending on LUTV.
“Really poor mistake. Just get there, deal with it quickly, but Bogle takes way too many touches, way too long. Once you’ve made a mistake, don’t compound it by putting yourself in the book.”
These defensive mishaps were even more apparent earlier in the campaign, when Bogle was criticised by Andy Hinchcliffe on Sky Sports during Leeds’ 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday last August.
“There’s no pressure on the ball, so as a full-back, don’t step up, don’t step away from your man. He’s caught watching the ball,
“Bogle defensively all over the place.”

Jayden Bogle is one of Leeds’ most important players
It’s fair to say Bogle has improved drastically since he first arrived at Elland Road, and now the Englishman has arguably been Leeds’ best player in the Premier League so far.
The defender also played a vital role in helping the Whites secure promotion last season.
- Bogle made 44 Championship appearances for Leeds last season
- He kept 19 clean sheets in those 44 league matches
- Bogle was still exceptional going forward, too, scoring six goals and getting four assists
As the defender settled, his form only improved, and near the end of last season, Micah Richards labelled Bogle “sensational” during United’s 6-0 win over Stoke that booked their place back in the Premier League.
Bogle has already scored once this season, and his attacking threat, combined with his improved defensive abilities, will be extremely useful assets for Leeds moving forward this season.
