Leeds United staff want to ‘monitor’ Archie Gray after recent Elland Road developments

Leeds United staff are eager to monitor Archie Gray’s involvement at senior level, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue.

The 17-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Whites so far this season, in what is his first campaign in the senior team.

The teenage midfielder also played in all three matches for the England Under-19 team during the recent international break.

“Leeds’ backroom staff are keen to monitor Gray’s involvement at senior level as he continues his transition from junior football to playing a prominent role in a full Championship campaign,” Donnohue wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Player management

Leeds manager Daniel Farke has done his best to help the teenage midfielder this season in terms of his playing time.

The man in the dugout has chopped and changed his starting XI during his brief time at Elland Road, and while he has relied heavily on Gray, the midfielder has been rested on occasion.

But the manager will not be best pleased after the player’s heavy involvement in the recent international break, particularly ahead of a huge trip to Carrow Road on Saturday (21 October).

The Whites return to Championship action with a test against Norwich City, and it will be very interesting to see if Gray makes the starting line-up or not.

Farke does have the likes of Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev to call upon alongside Ethan Ampadu, who is very likely to start in midfield.

Gray has enjoyed a rapid rise and will probably be keen to play as many minutes as possible, but the Leeds coaches need to be smart and help develop him properly.

In other Leeds United news, one former Championship player is “very happy” with Farke at Elland Road.
