Leeds United staff furious as under-23s goal disallowed v Arsenal - Beren Cross
Leeds United coaching staff were left “furious” on Friday as the under-23s were denied a clear winner at Arsenal.
Needing a win to secure safety in the Premier League 2, a 1-1 draw means all eyes are now on Chelsea who have two games left.
Beren Cross shared that after Mateo Joseph looked to have scored the winner, the linesman infuriated the away staff by ruling it out.
Writing on his personal Twitter account during the showdown last night, Cross shared what happened on the touchline.
“Joseph scores, but flag goes up,” he wrote. “Marginal.
“Leeds coaching staff furious with the officials.”
This was a shocking piece of officiating from someone clearly trying to make a name for themselves in the under-23s scene.
Joseph was nowhere near clear of the final man, but it was tight and we believed the benefit of the doubt always went to the attacker in these situations?
This game meant nothing for Arsenal, so to make such a huge call when the young Whites are fighting relegation.
Leeds staff have every right to be furious, and if this does result in the drop, then some answers will need to be handed out.
Andrew Taylor has had to deal with most of his best players being taken by the first-team throughout the season, so to add this on top – it’s embarrassing.
Atleast there is some consistency at the worst possible level throughout all tiers of football in England, and something needs to be done about it.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal
