Leeds United set to take Cormac Austin on trial
Leeds United are set to take Linfield’s rising star Cormac Austin on trial, according to a new report.
St Mary’s Christian Brothers’ Grammar School have shared that the 15-year-old has been impressing in the Linfield academy, and he is now set to join up with the Whites on trial.
Former Northern Ireland international striker David Healy has heaped praise on the young central midfielder in the past, and it appears as if the Whites have acted quickly to try and seal his signature ahead of other clubs.
Speaking to Linfield’s website [via the Belfast Live], Healy said: “It was fantastic seeing Cormac in the team. he has been in and around the Academy for the last couple of years.
“He is at that stage where clubs are trying to sign him. We will lose Cormac; there’s no doubt about it.
“We want to give Cormac as much exposure as we can and get him in and around the first-team as much as possible.
“Now he has finished with the Victory Shield team, we should be able to do that, and his progress over the next few months will stand him in good stead wherever he goes.”
High praise indeed.
Considering he is just 15, it seems pretty incredible that Healy intends to use Austin in the first team.
However, it seems as if he has resigned himself to the midfielder leaving, and it appears as if the Whites have stolen a march on everyone else.
In recent years, the Leeds academy has got better and better, and they have developed a bit of a reputation for picking up some of the best youth talents around, so you would think Austin must be pretty good.
Well, he has made one first-team appearance for Linfield, so he must be doing something right, and it is exciting to see yet another youth prospect arrive at the Whites [Linfield’s official website].
Let us all hope that he makes a big impression and joins Leeds permanently because Healy was a pretty good player himself, and there could be a big future ahead for Austin.
