Lewis Bate bids Chelsea goodbyes ahead of expected Leeds United signing

It appears as if Leeds United are very close to securing the signing of Lewis Bate from Chelsea after the player said his goodbyes to his teammates, according to Adam Newson.

The Football.London Chelsea correspondent also claimed that the deal for the Whites to sign the 18-year-old was “done”. Bate travelled up to Leeds to have his medical after a fee was agreed, and now it appears as if Leeds have secured Bate’s signature [The Athletic].

There was a bit of a battle for the 18-year-old, but it appears as if Bate has decided that Elland Road is the best place to further his career instead of staying at Stamford Bridge or moving to another Premier League club.

Bate a done deal!

It seems as if the Whites will be announcing Bate’s signing imminently after this latest update as Leeds continue to strengthen their Under-23s.

Ram Srinivas, a co-founder of football analytics consultancy MRKT Insights, believes that Bate is “probably capable of serving as an understudy to Kalvin Phillips” [YEP]. So it appears as if the Whites are signing a very talented player.

Of course, it will probably be a while before Leeds fans get to see Bate in the first team, but it is good that the club continue to sign the best Under-23 players around.

Last summer, they signed Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood and stormed the division, so they are clearly committed to developing these youngsters, and if they are deemed good enough, Marcelo Bielsa will give them a chance.

So the Whites appear to be about to sign Bate, and it feels like it will just be a matter of time before Leeds announce this latest signing.

Bate had other options, but it is fantastic to see that he has decided to move to Elland Road to further his career.

In other Leeds United news, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Whites’ pursuit of a certain player.
