Leeds United set to play Real Betis in a pre-season friendly on July 31
Leeds United look set to play Real Betis in one of their pre-season friendlies before they kick off their Premier League campaign against Manchester United, according to a report from ABC in Spain.
They claim that it will be announced “shortly” that the Whites will play the La Liga side on July 31 and that the “agreement between” Leeds and Betis is at a “very advanced” stage.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are planning to come over to the UK for a portion of their pre-season, so you would think this game could be at Elland Road.
Therefore, this game could be the first time that this Leeds team play in front of a full Elland Road, depending on if restrictions are in place for the match or not.
Leeds’ pre-season schedule includes games against Guiseley, Blackburn Rovers, and Fleetwood Town. So playing a La Liga side should spice things up a little bit.
It remains to be seen if this match will be played at Elland Road, but if Betis are set to be in England, surely it makes sense to play the match there?
This game could also be the first time that many Leeds fans get to see Junior Firpo in the flesh, so there are plenty of positives to this match happening.
We will now just have to see what happens, but if this report is true, Marcelo Bielsa will be able to test his side against Pellegrini, who he has faced four times as a manager before, and also give him a chance to try his Leeds side out against a team which finished sixth in La Liga.
So, this could prove to be the perfect runout for Leeds and Betis, and if it happens at Elland Road, that is even better.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are one of several clubs pursuing a move for a certain European goalkeeper.
