Leeds United set for transfer war chest even if relegation to the Championship – report

Leeds United are set to hand Jesse Marsch a major transfer war chest this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

They have reported that even if the Whites are relegated to the Championship this weekend, player sales will be pumped back into the transfer plans.

It is shared that the expectation would be that Marsch would take Leeds immediately back to the Premier League on the first time of asking.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Mike Keegan shared what could happen in the upcoming summer in terms of transfers.

“Given the reduction in bills, it is thought any income from transfers would go straight into a war chest with the club seeking to come back at the first attempt,” he wrote.

“Although not a disaster, the expectation would be that Jesse Marsch ensures their stay in the Championship is a short one.”

Worst nightmare.

The worst possible scenario would be relegation then being followed by Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha leaving the club and leaving us back at square one.

After positing profits in our latest accounts though, every last penny brought into the club through transfers can be used to bring in players of our own and storm the Championship.

The parachute payments can then be used to cover wages, that will still likely be high even with reduction clauses in current contracts of the squad.

Having said that, we still have our own fate in our hands, and it will stay that way on the final day if Burnley lose at Aston Villa on Thursday evening [19 May].

If that happens at Villa Park, we have to be classed as favourites to stay up, but if we travel to Brentford needing a win, that is when it could become a struggle with so much on the line.

Either way, it looks as though we will have a big budget to play for this summer – we’re confident that it will be with us still in the Premier League.

Bring it on.
