Phil Hay: Andrea Radrizzani present to hear Leeds United chants, 49ers Enterprises jetted in to watch Brighton game

Phil Hay has shared that Andrea Radrizzani was at Elland Road to hear the Leeds United fans chant for his exit against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

The Athletic also confirmed that representatives of the 49ers Enterprises had also flown in through the week and were there to hear the chants at the Italian.

It was described as a “pitchforks in hand” atmosphere, but that all changed when Pascal Struijk headed home a last-gasp equaliser after magic from Joe Gelhardt.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic, Hay shared what it was like as Leeds fans appeared to turn on the owners as the game edged on at Elland Road.

“They morphed into verbal attacks on the directors’ box: ‘sack the board’ and ‘Radrizzani, this is on you’,” he wrote.

“Andrea Radrizzani was there to hear them, even though Marsch claimed not to have heard anything. Officials from 49ers Enterprises, Leeds’ minority shareholder, had flown in for the weekend, their first experience of an English crowd with pitchforks in hand.”

Sack the board?

It is hard not to see the logic in this.

Radrizzani has made some catastrophic errors along with his team this season, and even made the huge decision to sack Marcelo Bielsa, something that will look horrific should we not stay in the Premier League.

On top of that, his decision not to spend any money in January was one of the worst we have ever seen, at a time when the likes of Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford were all out injured.

The 49ers witnessed an incredible ending yesterday, but they also witnessed first-hand what can happen if they are deemed to be the problem with developments at the club.

That is pure passion, and it is certainly warranted given all of the talking that the likes of Radrizzani and Victor Orta do when meeting fans or on social media.

All eyes are on Burnley at Aston Villa on Thursday evening, and should they lose that, the Whites know that bettering their result on the final day will keep them in the Premier League.

We have everything crossed.
