Leeds receive Kalvin Phillips fitness boost ahead of Southampton clash
Leeds United will travel to St Mary’s to face Southampton in the Premier League clash on Saturday after the international break.
The Whites have received a major injury boost with Leeds Live reporting that Kalvin Phillips is expected to feature against the Saints.
The 25-year-old midfielder was withdrawn from the England squad after he picked up a minor calf strain against Watford.
The report claims that Phillips will be fit to face Southampton this week and that his injury is not too serious.
The 25-year-old is the heart-beat of this side, and Leeds need him to be on top of his game after the international break.
The Whites picked up their first Premier League win of the season when they defeated Watford 1-0 at Elland Road earlier this month.
Key players missing
While getting Phillips back against Southampton will be a massive boost for the Whites, Marcelo Bielsa’s side is still missing a lot of key players at the moment through injury.
Robin Koch picked up a pelvic injury on the opening weekend defeat at Manchester United, and no timescale has been given when he can return.
Leeds right-back Luke Ayling took a knock during the game against Newcastle last month and he hasn’t played since.
Bielsa confirmed that he has injured his knee and will require a minor surgical intervention. He will take time to recover.
Patrick Bamford also missed international action this month after he picked up a heavy knock against Newcastle. He hasn’t played since but could return against the Saints.
