Leeds United ready to table January bid for Alfonso Pedraza, Villarreal to consider sale to Victor Orta
Leeds United emerge as the only club at the moment with the chance to sign Villarreal left-back Alfonso Pedraza in the January window, according to reports from La Razon.
Inter Milan were also eyeing a move for the 26-year-old but they have cooled their interest in recent weeks. It clears the path for the Whites to secure his signature.
The Whites are preparing a bid to sign the defender and the Yellow Submarine are open to negotiating a deal.
Victor Orta is forced to sign a replacement for Junior Firpo who is “seriously injured”. The La Liga club are ready to sell Pedraza in January if the Whites can stump up enough cash.
Leeds simply need to sign a new left-back in the January window following the injury to Firpo.
Pascal Struijk has done admirably well at the club, but he is a natural centre-back. The Dutchman is not a long-term solution at left-back, and thus a new addition is a priority.
Pedraza would be the ideal signing to fill the present void, as he has previously experienced Leeds before, having played 14 matches on loan in 2016-17.
Capable of playing as a left-sided midfielder, Pedraza has made 10 starts in La Liga this season and he has maintained a fantastic level of consistency throughout.
He is approaching the peak years of his career and can provide the Whites with a good few years of service before he starts to decline.
With Inter seemingly out of the picture, Leeds must now make his signing a priority and it’s over to Orta now to wrap up the deal.
Firpo has struggled with fitness since joining from Barcelona and he needs to be replaced. The key thing here is to get the deal done early in January so that the player can be integrated into the side quickly.
