Leeds United ready contract offer to sign Raphael Guerreiro

Leeds United are showing keen interest to sign Borrusia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro, according to a report from Teamtalk.

The report suggests that the Whites are preparing a contract offer to sign a “specialist” left-back in the new year.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta has set his sight fixed on Guerreiro who has emerged as a top target for the club.

Smart move

The left-back is one of the major issues for the Whites, and Marsch has taken the right decision to bring in a specialist left-back in January.

When Junior Firpo was signed from Barcelona, it was thought that he would fix the long-term issue, but the defender struggled badly with form and fitness.

Stuart Dallas, another player who can play as a left-back, is out injured. Pascal Struijk can fit at left-back, and has done well, but he is primarily a centre-back.

Guerreiro is a vastly experienced defender who has made over 200 appearances since joining the club in 2016.

The Portuguese has a contract at the club until 2023, and talks over a new deal have stalled. It gives hope to other potential suitors, especially Leeds.

The Whites are likely to face strong competition though from Italian clubs like Juventus, but they must feel confident about snapping up him in January.

The defender can even sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in January, but Leeds must look to bring him at the club now than wait for his arrival next summer.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to sign an 18-year-old midfielder.
