Leeds United: Ray Parlour blown away by ‘superb weapon’ Sam Greenwood has at Middlesbrough
Ray Parlour has described Leeds United loanee Sam Greenwood as a “key player” for Middlesbrough while pointing to the “superb weapon” the Englishman possesses.
Greenwood made the temporary switch from Leeds to Middlesbrough during the summer and has so far made 11 appearances in the Championship for Michael Carrick’s side, scoring on four occasions.
His most recent strike was a big one as he scored an 83rd-minute free-kick against top-of-the-table Leicester City to hand Boro a 1-0 victory. Parlour has pointed to his ability from set pieces while piling the praise on the 21-year-old.

The former Boro midfielder said via the Northern Echo, 16 November: “That winning goal against Leicester was outstanding – Sam Greenwood is a massive talent and if he keeps taking free-kicks like that, then Boro have a superb weapon when it comes to set-pieces.
“He is a key player for Boro and I’ll be keeping a close eye on his development – consistency is important for young players and I’m sure he will continue to play at a high level.”
Shining
Greenwood is enjoying his time at Boro and has worked his way into Carrick’s plans. Upon his arrival at the club, his contributions were limited to appearances off the bench, however, he has started the last seven matches and this has coincided with the club’s upturn in form.
The Leeds loanee has scored four times in those seven starts, including one in each of the past two matches, and Boro have only lost once since Greenwood has come into the side.

Carrick’s men are breathing down the necks of Sunderland who sit in sixth place, with just two points separating the two sides, and Greenwood has been influential in leading the club on their charge toward the top six and the play-off places.
If he continues developing in the way he is, his return to Elland Road next summer will be very exciting for Leeds supporters. Loan moves are always hit or miss, this one is certainly a hit at the moment.
