Dean Jones tips Thierry Henry to ‘unlock new levels’ within Leeds United ace Georginio Rutter

France Under-21 manager Thierry Henry can “unlock new levels” within Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter.

That is the viewpoint of journalist Dean Jones after Whites forward Rutter was called up by the boss for the current international break.

The nation take on Austria in Euro qualification on Friday (17 November) and South Korea in a friendly on Monday (20 November).

“I can’t see how it would hurt to work with Henry,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT. “I understand sometimes you don’t want your players going away on international duty, and you’d rather they just had a rest.

“But, ultimately, if you’re a player of this type and you’ve got Henry potentially able to unlock new levels within you and teach you new skills, it’s got to be a positive thing.

“Rutter is a player who believes he can go to the very top, and it’s impossible from a player’s point of view to turn down the possibility of going to work with Henry. So, surely it can only lead to good things.”

Senior France future?

Rutter will be delighted with his international call-up, with not many people having predicted the player to get to this stage given his struggles not so long ago.

The young attacker came under fire for his displays at Elland Road when he arrived in January, primarily because Leeds broke their transfer record to sign him.

Some poor displays in the top flight followed, although not many in white could hold their head high when the West Yorkshire club were relegated to the Championship.

But Rutter is one of many players now thriving since that relegation, with manager Daniel Farke helping to bring out the best of the 21-year-old.

The man in the Elland Road dugout will have mixed feelings about the call-up, however, with Farke undoubtedly happy and proud of Rutter.

But there may also be thoughts of fear in the back of his mind, with the Whites manager desperate for Rutter to return to West Yorkshire free from injury.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites ace sent a two-word message to a player after he made his Champions League debut recently.
