Leeds United pursuit of Brennan Johnson takes an interesting twist

Leeds United have been linked with a summer move for Nottingham Forest talent Brennan Johnson.

The Welshman was on loan at Lincoln City last season and ended up being involved in 16 goals in League One.

Barnsley have now joined the race, and The Athletic has reported that it is an “interesting twist” in the future of the attacker.

It is suggested that the Tykes are only ready to spend £2million for the 20-year-old after losing Valerien Ismael.

That is not supposedly enough, and it could take more than double that amount for anyone to complete the deal.

Having said that, it is reported that Forest may need to cash in on some of their prized assets over the summer to complete their own business.

Johnson wouldn’t leave too much of a big gap in their squad, especially given the fact that he was sent out on loan last year.

Orta watching close.

Victor Orta is keeping a close eye on the players that may be coming available over the summer.

The Spaniard is strengthening the first-team and the academy, and Johnson could feature in both squads should he make the move.

Barnsley cannot compete on the same financial level as the Whites, and their below-the-belt potential offer could see Forest shy away from any future negotiations.

Leeds may turn heads if they put in a bid of around £5million, but it appears as though they won’t do that unless they look set to miss out.

Orta and the Whites are perfect at pouncing at the exact right time, and this could be no different as Johnson looks set to move on this summer.
