Leeds United player ratings v Rotherham United: Crysencio Summerville shines, Dan James flops

Leeds United and Rotherham United shared the spoils on Friday, 24 November, playing out a 1-1 draw in the EFL Championship.

The Whites dominated the game from start to end and even took the lead through Crysencio Summerville, but failed to make their chances count.

Jaidon Anthony looked to have won it for them late on, but the linesman flagged it for the narrowest of offsides.

Here are our Leeds United player ratings:

Illan Meslier – 6

Arguably could’ve done better to keep the Rotherham goal at bay. The ball was very close to him and he should’ve done something to get his hands on it. Made an important save in the 79th minute of the game which was a good chance for the hosts against the run of play.

Archie Gray – 7

Was tidy with his passing and won most of his duels – both on the ground as well as aerially. He offered a threat going forward and did not neglect his defensive duties either. Farke’s found a gem at right-back and it’s hard to take him out of the team.

Joe Rodon – 8

Much like Gray, there wasn’t too much to fault in Rodon’s performance. He completed over 100 passes with an accuracy north of 90 per cent and was imperious in the air as well – winning four out of his five attempted duels. On the ground, he boasted a 100 per cent duel success rate and he did not let anything pass.

Liam Cooper – 7

Was also exceptional with his passes but there were a few occasions where the Scotland international saw himself getting bullied. He still was phenomenal in defence and made an important clearance off the line too for the Whites.

Junior Firpo – 3

Once again, his positioning let him down as his inclination to join the attack, often saw him neglect the defensive aspect of his game. He was a liability in the Premier League and things aren’t really anything better for him in the Championship either. Was deservedly taken off for Willy Gnonto.

Leeds United

Ethan Ampadu – 7

Dictated the tempo of the game very well and managed to stop the opposition attack on numerous occasions. He didn’t take too many risks but that’s precisely what Farke would’ve wanted from him. Played a killer pass in the final quarter of the game too, but unfortunately, Patrick Bamford was in an offside position.

Glen Kamara – 7

Won all of his ground duels and boasted a pass accuracy north of 90 per cent. Had a glorious chance to score in the first half when Summerville found him but he’s not really known for his composure in front of goal. It was still an impressive effort in the middle of the park from the Finland international.

Dan James – 2

The Wales international had arguably the worst match of the season as he struggled to do anything down the right wing. His pass accuracy was below 60 per cent, he failed to complete any one of his attempted four take ons and was wayward with his crossing too. It was baffling how Farke did not bring him off and get fresher legs on. James will have been disappointed with this one.

Joel Piroe – 4

A disappointing evening for the Dutchman as he failed to threaten the opposition goalkeeper. All his shots were tame and had no power behind them. He even failed to link up well with Rutter and it was a poor effort from him. Was isolated for most of the game.

Crysencio Summerville – 9

The Dutchman is in red hot form and displayed his goal-scoring prowess once again. Whenever he received the ball on the left wing, the Rotherham defenders retreated a foot or two and he managed to punish them in transition with a well-placed effort into the far post. Had a chance to double his tally in the 32nd minute and surely felt he should’ve done more.

Georginio Rutter – 5

Struggled to get involved as he normally does and was well taken care of by the Rotherham back line. Usually, someone who’s adept at finding spaces out wide and running in behind defences, it was a relatively quiet evening for the Frenchman.
