Leeds United pause negotiations with Raphinha amid Barcelona links
Negotiations between Leeds United and exit-linked Raphinha are reportedly on hold until the end of the season.
According to the Mirror, the Whites are hoping to revive it in May as the player is wanted by La Liga giants Barcelona.
They cannot agree to a release clause now with the club’s Premier League status still in doubt so any talks over making him the highest-paid player may have to wait until safety is confirmed.
Either this summer or in the following two windows, the Brazilian is bound to leave Leeds.
When he moved to Elland Road, he was a relative unknown, which is why signing him was not a hassle.
However, after two terrific seasons in the Premier League, there are no surprises to see a number of clubs queueing up for his services.
The Brazilian is an attacker on the cusp of becoming world class and he is aware of that fact.
His agent Deco is a former Barcelona player so there are no points for guessing where he would like his client to eventually end up.
The Catalan Giants are rebuilding their side under new manager Xavi and Raphinha could fancy a move to Camp Nou.
He would be offered Champions League football and a greater stage to showcase his talents.
As of now, he’s become a regular for Brazil, but the kind of stature a move to Barcelona gives you is hard to compare, and one he seems keen on achieving.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
