BBC Sport pundit gushes over Jesse Marsch and excellent Leeds United

Paul Robinson has been thoroughly impressed by recent Leeds United performances under the guidance of Jesse Marsch in the Premier League.

Marsch and the Whites have yet to pick up three points in 2023 but enjoyed hard-fought draws to Newcastle United and West Ham United.

BBC Sport pundit Robinson shared his admiration for the “excellent” Marsch and thinks recent outings have proven that he has the full backing of the team.

“They’re in a relegation battle. The point away at Newcastle United was excellent because the conditions were very difficult and the atmosphere was excellent,” Robinson told Betfred as quoted by the Yorkshire Post.

“I was at the game and defensively they were very good but offensively they didn’t offer much and they were hanging on at times.

“They put in a shift that would suggest that the manager hasn’t lost the team. The manager has got the team playing for him. I think Jesse Marsch sets them up too narrow from a starting position and they’re vulnerable. However, he’s got the team doing what he wants them to do.”

Long way to go.

There is still a long way to go in the Premier League season and the outcome is far from a foregone conclusion for Leeds United and Marsch.

Robinson is right in his thinking that the team seem to be behind the American, as the intensity and grit he asks from players are there for all fans to see.

Now it’s all about converting this into points, something that is easier said than done, but with the weapons at his disposal it can be achieved.

Creativity in forward positions is still lacking at times and a fearsome forward with an eye for goal wouldn’t go amiss in the January transfer window.

With Victor Orta already securing the services of Maximilian Wober to sure things up at the back for Marsch, a striker must now be on the agenda.

There are plenty of options on the market for the Sporting Director to explore and he’ll no doubt have some form of savvy under-the-radar gem in his thinking.

Now it’s just about converting that interest into a reality.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have already made an approach to sign a player who could be the next arrival at Elland Road after Max Wober.
