Leeds United one of 19 Premier League clubs opposed to the Newcastle takeover

Leeds United and the other 18 Premier League clubs have opposed the takeover of Newcastle United this week.

The Guardian claim that the Whites are united with every other club in the top flight and are demanding an emergency meeting with the league.

It is said that the clubs, including Leeds, want to know why the Premier League changed their mind and allowed the takeover to pass after being dead against it for 18 months.

Leeds totally against this takeover.

Newcastle are now the richest club in the world; they have gone from drifting along aimlessly under Mike Ashley to potentially being big players.

The non-executive chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan claimed that the consortium in charge of the Toon would be “ambitious”, and that spells danger for the rest of the league [Evening Chronicle].

Therefore, it is no real surprise to see the Whites oppose this deal, as this means that they have yet another club to compete with to get back up to the top of the table.

The Whites have some very wealthy backers themselves, and Andrea Radrizzani has guided the club through some tough times [Biz Journals].

However, with Newcastle’s newfound wealth and ambition, you would think that Leeds could be eclipsed, so we are not surprised to see them calling for an emergency meeting with the league.

Having said all of this, there is unlikely to be much they can do about it as the takeover is completed now, and they must come up with a different way to achieve their ambitions.

It looks as though it could be time to move on.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are close to making another signing.
