Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig on loan in the January window.
The 21-year-old wants a place in the Spanish squad for the Euros next summer and needs to play regular first-team football.
He’s not getting that under Ronald Koeman at the Nou Camp. He’s only played three minutes in La Liga so far this season.
According to 90min.com, Puig doesn’t want a permanent move and his agent is on the lookout for a suitable cub.
It is said that Lionel Messi has convinced him to keep pushing at Barcelona.
His agent has been in contact with Leeds as the club fits the way that Puig plays and Koeman is expected to sanction a loan deal.
Leeds don’t do Januarys
Leeds need a midfielder but there’s one big problem with this – Leeds don’t like to do business in January.
And, while we’re sure that Puig would strengthen the Leeds squad, he’s not going to come in and get regular first-team football.
Bielsa likes to work with his players on a long-term basis and rarely makes big changes to his line-up.
Raphinha signed for £18m after the season had started and only got his first start against Arsenal on Sunday.
It would be even harder for players coming into Bielsa’s squad midway through the season.
If Puig did come in we could see him not getting a start for the rest of the season and seeing as he’s moving to get regular first-team football, it seems like a non-starter.
His agent might see Leeds as the perfect footballing side for Puig, but if he’d just done some perfunctory research he would have found that out for himself.
