Leeds United news roundup: Gnonto claim made as likely £1m deal struck

Leeds United return to Premier League action in under three weeks, with a lot of work left to do.

The Whites have made some serious progress in the summer transfer window, though they have also been dealt their fair share of blows when it comes to recruitment.

Igor Paixao’s move to Marseille serves as the latest blow, after it was claimed that a deal was almost complete with Leeds.

However, there is still time to address the major concerns ahead of their return to the Premier League, with plenty going on behind the scenes at Elland Road.

Artem Dovbyk linked with Leeds transfer

Leeds have made no secret of their desire to land a new striker this summer, with Artem Dovbyk the latest to be linked.

The Roma forward scored 12 times in the Serie A last season, and could leave the Italian giants for a fee in the region of £30.3million this summer.

Dovbyk has typically scored goals wherever he has played throughout his career, with a fine campaign at Girona ultimately earning him his big-money move to Roma last summer.

Willy Gnonto set for Leeds battle

With news emerging over the last 24 hours of Paixao’s move to Marseille, questions have emerged as to who will fill the void on the left wing.

However, Paul Robinson has backed Willy Gnonto to be one of two Leeds stars to fight for that place in the Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: With the rigours of the Premier League, he is going to have to chop and change.

But I think with Ramazani and Gnonto, the two of them can fight it out for that berth on the left-hand side.

Leeds set to bank seven-figure sum after announcement

Sponsorships play a huge role in the finances of the Premier League, and Leeds have recently announced that Parimatch will be their new official sleeve partner, a company with betting links.

Dan Plumley, an expert when it comes to finances, told MOT Leeds News: “Possible for it to be low millions, but single digit.

“Front of shirt sponsors for some clubs in the Premier League would only be around £5-8million, so shirt sleeves likely lower.

“More likely it’s in the high hundred thousand range, but if they’ve got a really good deal, it might be close to £1million ballpark.”
