Leeds United must sign off on permanent exit of Stuart McKinstry

Leeds United must sign off on the permanent exit of Motherwell loanee Stuart Mckinstry after the Scottish club were demolished 4-0 by Tottenham in a friendly on 9 December.

The Scottish Sun reported on 7 November that McKinstry was in line for a new and improved Leeds United contract but this must be avoided.

McKinstry did little to nothing to prove he has what it takes to earn a first-team Leeds spot against a second-string Tottenham side and was subbed out of the game at 58 minutes with Motherwell down 3-0.

The 20-year-old midfielder’s Leeds United contract comes to an end in the summer of 2023 and the club would lose the youngster for free if they chose against renewing his deal.

After his woeful performance on 9 December though, the Whites would be wise to not give the midfielder a new deal, he simply isn’t up to scratch.

Premier League pedigree.

In the cruel game of modern football, there arguably isn’t a tougher league to get game time in than the English Premier League and you have to be seriously good to do so.

McKinstry has obvious talents but his showing against a second-string Tottenham outfit simply confirmed why he has been sent out on loan by Jesse Marsch.

Leeds United have plenty of outstanding youth players coming into the fold at the moment and they are all leaps and bounds ahead of McKinstry.

Sam Greenwood and Crysencio Summerville are of similar ages to the Motherwell loanee and are both on another level to the midfielder, they have Premier League pedigree.

And in a time where Leeds needs to be calculating who they dish out contracts to from their youth, the Scot will have to miss out on this.

Saying that he’s actually had a solid season so far in the Scottish Premiership for Motherwell, but the levels in Scotland are far below that in England.

In other Leeds United news, a Premier League legend has made a move to sign this Leeds player ahead of January.
