Leeds United must make Jack Jenkins decision as Salford disappointment continues

Leeds United made the decision to loan out young midfielder Jack Jenkins to League Two side Salford City at the end of the summer transfer window.

At the time, it seemed like a smart decision from the Whites with the midfielder able to go an get a taste of men’s first-team football for the first time in his career. However, the academy product has not found things easy at Salford, with Jenkins yet to make a league appearance for The Ammies.

Jenkins has been on the bench for the past eleven matches for Salford and hasn’t been called upon once. His minutes have been purely restricted to EFL trophy matches, with the 20-year-old featuring three times so far.

He clearly would have been far better off remaining at Elland Road and being a part of Leeds under-21s side this season, where he would have got more minutes under his belt.

If Leeds do have the ability to recall the youngster then it’s a must in the January window. We are nearly a third through the season and for him not to have played a league game is not acceptable.

Getting him back in the youth set up playing games is what Jenkins needs, and with still another year left on his Leeds contract, he still has a chance to succeed.

This should be a wake-up call for Leeds to be careful in regards to who they do business with lower down the league pyramid. There’s no doubt Salford would’ve talked a good game before they signed the youngster, but now he’s on their books they have completely neglected him.

The Yorkshire side should never offer one of their youth talents to The Ammies again.

In other Leeds United news, a “monumental failure” at a Champions League club means this Elland Road-linked ace can be signed for “zilch” in 2023.
