Leeds United must avoid making this transfer blunder in January - Phil Hay

Leeds United must avoid making transfer blunders in their search for a new number nine to spearhead their attack, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

It’s been an area of concern for the Whites and Hay believes Leeds need to look for something different in January from what they already have.

Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, the journalist confessed that the Whites “really want to avoid” signing somebody who essentially plays in a position that’s already covered.

“You need somebody who thinks of themselves as a centre-forward, a goalscorer, someone who wants to play as a number nine,” he said.

“The one thing they really want to avoid is ending up signing somebody who essentially plays in a position that’s already covered, I think they need to go for a number nine.”

It’s time.

January is the perfect time for Leeds United to invest in a new poacher to spearhead their already frightening attack.

A proven goalscorer paired alongside the likes of Rodrigo, Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto would pack one hell of a punch.

And Hay is right, Marsch’s men need something different from what they already have, a new spice to add to the already delightful mix.

Patrick Bamford needs some weight lifted off his shoulders and a good chance at getting back fully fit, unfortunately, his search for another purple patch can’t be relied on.

This leaves the door wide open for a move for an alternative attacking option, a proper finisher who lives and breathes to score goals.

Who knows where this perfect striker will come from but hopefully, Victor Orta is on the case in what could be one of his last big transfers at Elland Road.

Selecting the right player who can fit into Marsch’s pressing machine is crucial in this one.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now put up a first-team player on sale as they expect top EFL sides to make a move for him in January.
