Leeds United may consider Luke Ayling replacement after what he did last week

Luke Ayling has been putting in a number of disappointing performances of late for Leeds United.

The game against Watford was arguably his worst one of the season, but it will not be talked about much as Leeds won 3-0.

However, the claim that this season has been his worst at Elland Road is something that most Whites fans would agree with.

David Phillips was on commentary for that game and called him out on his positioning on a number of occasions.

In one passage of play in the second half, he did not pull his punches and tore into the 30-year-old.

Speaking on the Premier League world feed, Phillips, a Sky Sports pundit, said, “Awful defending from Ayling. Far too cheap there to allow Hernandez the space.”

Unfortunately, this has been the story of Ayling’s season thus far and things are not looking like they’re going to improve any time soon.

While a number of players have stood up and faced the adversity to become better players this campaign, the right-back’s performances have tailed.

This may not be entirely his fault as he is now on the wrong of 30.

Jamie Shackleton could deputise for him but he’s always wanted to play in central midfield.

This makes it imperative for Leeds to sign another right-back in the summer.

Jesse Marsch could look to drop Ayling for a few games and play Stuart Dallas or Shackleton, depending on what the injury situation is looking like.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
