Leeds United make 'dramatic' late bid to hijack Liverpool transfer for £3million Calvin Ramsay

Leeds United are making a last-ditch attempt to hijack Liverpool’s proposed transfer for Aberdeen teenager Calvin Ramsay, according to The Sun.

The 18-year-old was interesting the Whites in January but no transfer materialised, and Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing Reds were thought to be in pole position to sign him this summer.

The Liverpool Echo confirmed this week that he was on the Anfield side’s radar but that they had yet to make a firm bid, and Phil Hay confirmed in The Athletic United were set to go up against them.

Now, their route to win that battle is being reported by Alan Nixon in The Sun, who says the young right-back is available for £3million and he can be offered a better route to a first-team spot at Elland Road.

Liverpool want him to back up Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield, where “spies” are reportedly “raving about” the Scot for being in the mould of the illustrious English defender.

At that price it seems like a perfect chance to fill a gap in the squad, and there is indeed a more realistic chance of becoming the starter for Leeds.

With all due respect to Luke Ayling who has been a wonderful servant at the club, he is seven years older than his Liverpool counterpart (30 compared to 23), and does not carry the same reputation.

On one of the rare occasions where not being a European giant is a benefit Victor Orta should take full advantage while he has the opportunity.

He will have to move fast though as The Mirror, who refer to Ramsay as a “wonderkid” note that a long list of teams have been linked to the Aberdeen player, including Leicester, Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham and Bologna.

In that light it is even more important to wrap up Premier League survival as fast as possible, as it will be hindering any such negotiations.

Ramsay has had a breakout year in the SPFL, after making his first-team debut last season, to become the regular starter at Pittodrie to the tune of 32 senior appearances.

In other Leeds United news, another Premier League rival’s transfer budget has been revealed as they chase an Elland Road star.
