Leeds United made move to bring Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah back to Elland Road – Sky Sports

Leeds United were trying to sign Arsenal talisman Eddie Nketiah this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The contract conflict at the Emirates was heavily covered in the media, but it looks as though the England youth international will now be staying in North London.

The Whites signed Nketiah on loan in their promotion year to the Premier League, but he returned in January after a lack of game time under Marcelo Bielsa.

Writing for Sky Sports on Tuesday morning [31 May], Tim Thornton shared the latest plans for the Whites in the final third at Elland Road with Victor Orta seemingly very busy.

“Finally, they are looking at bringing in another striker and were trying to bring Eddie Nketiah back to Elland Road,” he wrote.

“The emergence of Joe Gelhardt is a positive but they remain light there and have been for a long time.”

Busy.

It is easy to tell that transfer season is here, with Leeds linked with every player under the sun.

Nketiah may have been seen as an easy move to make for the Whites given their history and the guaranteed game time that he likely would have got this time around.

Patrick Bamford only managed nine games last season due to injury, and Rodrigo crashed hard as the season came to an end, leaving Joe Gelhardt with the world on his shoulders.

Mikel Arteta went hard to keep Nketiah in the end though and started him in nearly every one of his games in the final third of the campaign – with goals coming easily.

The 21-year-old grabbed five goals in his final seven appearances of the season and now looks set to take that into the next campaign, but if Arsenal sign a new striker, he may regret that decision heavily.

Leeds, it seems, now need to look elsewhere.
