Leeds United look to thrash out terms for Weston McKennie as they look to seal third ‘major’ transfer
Leeds United and Juventus are locked in talks over the transfer of Weston McKennie as the Whites look to secure their third “major” deal this month, according to Phil Hay.
Hay wrote for The Athletic that the deal is very much “under discussion” as the Whites look to thrash out terms for the 24-year-old midfielder.
Juventus value him in excess of £20million [The Athletic] and the player has indicated his desire to move to the Premier League if the Whites can agree a deal.
“Meanwhile, Leeds and Juventus are still locked in talks about Weston McKennie,” he wrote in a live blog for The Athletic [28 January, 07: 21].
“That deal is very much under discussion and Leeds will do it before the deadline if they can Juve can thrash out an agreement. It would be the third major arrival of the month, after Wober and Rutter.”
Get it done
Leeds United should look to get this deal done quickly and secure their third major signing of this month.
The Whites can be very happy with their transfers this month. They needed to sign a left-back and a striker, and they have added two fantastic players in those positions.
The club signed Max Wober and Georginio Rutter from Red Bull Salzburg and Hoffenheim respectively, and they are now looking to make a few more additions before the end of the window.
McKennie has been a regular for Juventus and he will be a terrific addition for the Whites. It remains to be seen if they will sign him permanently or on loan in January.
His potential arrival means Leeds will put an end to their pursuit of Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi.
The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for Ounahi who dazzled in the World Cup in Qatar, but the Yorkshire club were reluctant to meet Anger’s asking price for the player.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites appear to be on the cusp of another January signing as a player’s agent jets into the United Kingdom to conduct final transfer talks.
