Leeds United-linked Boubacar Kamara compared to Whites' Kalvin Phillips

Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara this month and the 22-year-old has been compared to an Elland Road favourite.

The Frenchman has been linked to a number of clubs but Get French Football News journalist Adam White believes that the Whites could be where he best suits.

Marcelo Bielsa’s interest in the 22-year-old is understandable and he is one of the names Leeds like and want to bring to the club [Daily Mail].

Speaking to GiveMeSport, White said: “I think there’s probably a fair amount of comparison between the two (Kamara and Kalvin Phillips) in some regards.

“I think Kamara is probably a good Bielsa-type player in that he’s young, mobile, technically very good and malleable, so Bielsa could put his ideas into him.”

It’s all very encouraging stuff to hear about a potential arrival at Elland Road but it does come with a worrying realisation.

There has been long term interest from other clubs in Leeds United midfield maestro Phillips and his outstanding Euro 2020 with England has only increased those desires.

This summer is the most likely yet we will see Phillips depart the club with bids that may be expected to come in and the player desiring game time in Europe.

But if they can get this deal over the line for Kamara, it shows great tenacity and forward-thinking among the powers that be.

If Kamara is the Phillips replacement, then bringing him in alongside the 26-year-old for half a season to learn and adapt is quietly genius.

Bielsa will hope that even half a season in partnership with Phillips will not only be enough to keep them out of a relegation scrap but see Kamara start next season at his best and propel Leeds up the Premier League table.

In other Leeds United news, a ‘powerful’ box-to-box midfielder could also be on his way to Yorkshire in January.
