Lens could sell Seko Fofana with Leeds United and Newcastle United in pursuit
Lens could sell midfielder Seko Fofana this month if the right offer is made amid interest from Leeds United, Burnley and Newcastle United, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reports that Burnley are in talks to sign the £14million-rated Ivory Coast international, who’s not playing at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Leeds and Newcastle are reportedly in the hunt to sign the 26-year-old central midfielder as well but “it remains to be seen if an offer of £14m would be enough to secure Fofana’s signature” due to how crucial he is at Lens.
If Burnley sign Fofana ahead of Leeds then something seriously isn’t right behind the scenes at Elland Road.
We doubt it’s going to be financial restrictions due to the 49ers investing in the club earlier this season and we doubt that Victor Orta isn’t out there to sign a central midfielder.
It’s just that Fofana ticks all the boxes and we guess that he’d be way more likely to join us than relegation-threatened Burnley if a move is made.
Lens’ captain has been described on the Ligue 1 website as “a tireless runner and a powerful presence” who’s a box-to-box midfielder and “some of Europe’s biggest clubs are interested in him”.
Fofana’s stats show that he’s a massive attacking threat too.
According to WhoScored, the former Manchester City and Fulham midfielder ranks seventh in Ligue 1 for shots at goal per match [2.7] and eighth for dribbles per match [2.2]. Remarkably, he’s only one place behind Lionel Messi [2.3] in the standings.
Leeds need to add to their midfield and we cannot stress enough just how perfect an addition Fofana would be this month.
He seems like he’s absolutely made for Bielsa.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this Portuguese left-back from a club in the North-West.
