Leeds United: Junior Firpo on Real Betis radar as Alex Moreno nears Aston Villa transfer
Junior Firpo could have an exit route out of Leeds United as La Liga club Real Betis have identified him as a potential January target, according to El Desmarque.
The 26-year-old has rarely featured for Jesse Marsch’s side this season with injuries plaguing his run in the team, although he did lay the full 90 minutes against Cardiff City in the FA Cup.
Pascal Struijk has been preferred to the Dominican Republic left-back this campaign and there are no signs to suggest Marsch will change his mind in the near future.
As a result, Betis are now looking at potentially making a move for the Leeds United man in the January transfer window, even if his long contract at Elland Road could cause issues.
The La Liga outfit are searching for a replacement for Alex Moreno who is on the verge of a move to Aston Villa ahead of the Villans welcoming the Whites to the Midlands on Friday night (13 January).
El Desmarque claims Firpo is ready to quit Leeds as he “[welcomes] a change of scenery”.
Marsch will have been looking to offload Firpo in order to sign a new and improved left-back in the summer so for a club to make themselves known early is actually a big benefit for the club.
Leeds United can now get a much better price than they may have done in the summer with Betis up against a ticking clock to find a replacement for Moreno, should his deal to Aston Villa go through as expected.
Max Wober has already been brought in to do a similar job to Struijk in being a natural centre-half who can deputise at left-back if required so there are no concerns over depth at Elland Road.
And with Firpo only available to play once in a blue moon, the Whites are going to be far better off selling him now and finding someone else who can play more than one game every two months.
