Leeds United want to complete £30m Georginio Rutter signing today

Leeds United are very keen to add Hoffenheim striker Georginio Rutter to their squad on Wednesday (11 January), according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old is said to be extremely keen on the move to Elland Road and wants to get his medical underway as soon as possible.

Bundesliga side Hoffenheim had been holding out for a bid worth £35million for Rutter, a French Under-21 international, but have chosen to accept the Whites’ £30million bid instead.

Victor Orta wants to push this transfer through on Wednesday in order to register him in time for the trip to Villa Park to face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Friday night (13 January).

The striker has scored just twice this season for Hoffenheim in all competitions in 17 matches having joined them for a very small fee from Stade Rennes in his native France in 2021.

Wildcard

Two goals all season isn’t something that will excite Leeds United fans greatly, even if the £30million price tag would be a club-record fee, but this is not a signing to snub as a waste of money yet.

People were saying the same about Joelinton at Newcastle United a couple of years ago but the Brazilian has turned everything around at St James’ Park after being coached into a new role.

The same could easily happen with Rutter if he does not score the buckets of goals Jesse Marsch wants him to and both players would have arrived in the Premier League from the same club too.

It will take something rather special to put Rodrigo out of the side right now with 11 goals to the Spaniard’s name so far this season and Rutter doesn’t appear to be the relentless goal-scorer Leeds need.

He could easily prove everyone wrong but this is certainly a big gamble from Marsch and Orta.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites aren’t the only side trying to rush through a transfer before Friday night as Villa want this full-back in time for the match.
