Arsenal join Leeds United in race to sign Noah Okafor

Leeds United and Arsenal are showing keen interest in signing Red Bull Salzburg forward Noah Okafor, as reported by Calciomercato.

The Italian media outlet reported on 2 November that Okafor is set to leave Salzburg next June. He has a contract at the club until 2024, and several clubs across Europe are showing keen interest.

At the moment, there’s nothing concrete, but the Whites are keeping close tabs on the 22-year-old who could cost in the region of £30m.

Need for a striker

The Swiss striker has been in excellent form this season, and has particularly dazzled in Europe.

He has scored three goals in five games so far in the Champions League and managed nine in 19 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Okafor is a typical modern-day center-forward, who is quick, physically strong and capable of playing in multiple positions.

Salzburg signed the player for around £10m but now they are asking for a hefty transfer fee, somewhere in the north of £30m.

Despite signing Wilfried Gnonto in the summer transfer window, Leeds could be looking to add another striker in the summer. Joe Gelhardt hasn’t been impressive so far, while Patrick Bamford probably needs another forward to complement him.

Okafor is an exciting young player who is proving his class in Europe. He could be a brilliant addition to the club.

It remains to be seen if the Whites make any approach in the summer. Arsenal probably can offer them European football, which is a big incentive, but the Whites should try their luck.

In other Leeds United news, this Whites’ sensation is finally back in training after major surgery.
