Leeds United wonder Joe Gelhardt predicted to make England 2026 World Cup squad

Joe Gelhardt may fly the flag for Leeds United at the 2026 World Cup for England with the young forward being named as a potential option to head to Canada, Mexico and the USA, according to the Independent.

The 20-year-old does indeed stand every chance of exploding over the next few seasons before the tournament takes place and could spearhead England’s attack.

The Independent admitted that Gelhardt would be a “futuristic punt” for the England World Cup squad and would provide a dynamic impact.

“A futuristic punt may be Leeds’ dynamic impact substitute Joe Gelhardt,” as quoted by the Independent.

It’s pretty early doors to be predicting any England World Cup squads just yet but it’s nice to see the Leeds wonder get a mention anyway.

Game time.

The 20-year-old will need more game time if he is to make any push towards an England World Cup squad in 2026, however, there is plenty of time for him to do so.

Whether he’ll get that under Jesse Marsch however, remains to be seen, the American seems to favour other forward options over the young scouser.

It’s odd considering how many times Gelhardt has ripped up action in the Premier League 2 and it would be nice to see him given more of a chance.

The ambitious wonder will likely be growing frustrated with his lack of game time and this may make him opt for a transfer before the 2026 World Cup.

This is a real possibility, Gelhardt needs to be playing regular football if he is to progress any further in his blossoming career.

Leeds All Over revealed on 1 December that Gelhardt was being sounded out by Championship clubs over a potential switch in January.

Nevertheless, Crysenscio Summerville’s latest injury mishap may block this move from happening and provides Gelhardt with the chance at some first-team football at Elland Road in the coming months.

In other Leeds United news, a Premier League legend has made a move to sign this Leeds player ahead of January.
