Leeds United in Mateusz Klich U-turn after Jesse Marsch conversation

Leeds United are no longer willing to allow Mateusz Klich to leave the club this summer, according to Polish media outlet Meczyki.

The 32-year-old had been touted to be heading out of Elland Road with FC Utrecht keen to bring the Polish international back to the Eredivisie, as reported by Phil Hay.

But the Whites have totally changed their minds in Klich now after he impressed off the bench during the 2-1 comeback win at home to Wolves on the opening day of the new season.

Meczyki claims that Jesse Marsch spoke directly to the Pole after the game to reveal that they no longer had intentions of selling him in this summer window and that he would not be allowed to leave the club.

Klich himself had been keen to leave Thorp Arch to try and find regular first-team football ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to ensure his selection in Czesław Michniewicz’s squad.

Sudden

It is amazing how one good performance can totally change the landscape of a player’s career and this time it seems to be a good shift.

Klich’s place in the side was always likely to come under threat with multiple midfielders signed over the summer and it seemed to be the case with Marc Roca and Tyler Adams starting against Bruno Lage’s side.

But when those two weren’t cutting the mustard, Marsch called upon a player he hasn’t yet used as much as Marcelo Bielsa did before him and everything changed.

Even at 32 years of age, the Pole showed fantastic energy to keep the rest of the side going as much as they could and he started to get on top of the Wolves duo and turn the battle of the centre in Leeds’ favour.

The winning goal may not have come directly from Klich himself but his presence on the pitch was different enough to spark that little bit of quality to win a tight contest.

In other Leeds United news, these two attacking talents have seemingly been chalked off the summer transfer list at Thorp Arch.
