Leeds have now intensified their January plans after signing intent shared – Phil Hay

Phil Hay has insisted that Leeds United have intensified their January transfer plans ahead of the upcoming window.

The Athletic journalist has already shared that a new midfielder was the plan in January after losing Kalvin Phillips, but it appears as though those plans have now stepped up.

The Yorkshire Pirlo is out until the end of January at the earliest, but it looks as though Victor Orta is now putting his foot on the pedal.

Writing for The Athletic, Hay shared that Marcelo Bielsa is under “serve” selection pressure with the players he has available at Elland Road.

“The selection pressure caused by injuries has been unending and severe, and it is affecting results to an extent that Bielsa has not experienced previously,” he wrote.

“So naturally, 84 per cent of you want to see business done in January. The Athletic’s understanding is that since the injury to Phillips, in particular, Leeds’ plans to be active in the market have intensified. “

Need growing.

If it wasn’t already at panic stations, we certainly are now.

With Stuart Dallas being forced to drop into defence to cover the mountain of injuries at Elland Road, we only have two senior midfield options.

Mateusz Klich and Adam Forshaw are the only two available to Bielsa before he dips into the under-23s once again.

The Polish international has endured a shocking start to the season, looking a shadow of his former self, but the added responsibility on his shoulders in the next two weeks may bring the best out of him again.

With less than 11 senior players available right now, signings are needed and if they don’t happen, relegation is likely.

Hay suggests that plans have intensified at Elland Road, and hopefully that means Orta will have deals in place as soon as the window opens.

Fingers crossed.
