Leeds United handed boost to sign World Cup ace Jose Cifuentes as he pens emotional message to MLS side LAFC

Leeds United have been handed a major boost to secure the services of Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes in January.

Ecuador radio station Machdeportes have reported that the Whites are keen on signing the 23-year-old once the transfer window opens.

Cifuentes, before he flew to Qatar to represent Ecuador at the World Cup, took to Instagram to pen an emotional message to the MLS outfit.

While he stopped short of saying he will be leaving the club, he did thank everyone at the club and also said that LAFC have a special place in his heart.

This may not be a clear cut message that he wants to leave, but it was certainly filled with emotions and a move to the Premier League may be too hard to turn down.

In their tweet, Machdeportes wrote, “Leeds United of the Premier League are interested in signing Jose Cifuentes, current midfielder of LAFC.”

Mateusz Klich appears to be on his way out of the club and the Whites may have an ideal replacement in the form of Cifuentes.

Unlike Tyler Adams and Marc Roca, the 23-year-old is more of an attack-minded midfielder and can be devastating in the final third.

In games that Leeds expect to dominate possession, Jesse Marsch could play just one holding midfielder in Adams and allow Cifuentes and Brenden Aaronson more freedom to wreak havoc.

There have also been links with Brighton in the past and they may very well be back in the race for him, especially after his Instagram post that seems to be open to interpretation.

In other Leeds United news, an attacker linked with a move to Elland Road claims that he could leave his Champions League club in the January transfer window.
