Leeds United goalkeeper Joel Robles explains decison to visit Manchester United stadium Old Trafford

Leeds United goalkeeper Joel Robles has revealed that he made a trip to Manchester United stadium Old Trafford last week.

Speaking to Spanish radio channel Marca, the Whites number two explained that he wanted to visit his former Real Betis teammates who were there to take on the Reds in the UEFA Europa League.

They ended up losing that game 4-1 and Robles reveals that he went to meet the players during their training session.

He said, “I was greeting my teammates, I was in training at Old Trafford. I talk a lot with them, I’m up to date with everything, I know what’s going on.

“I watch the games because here, since the weather is bad, I have to watch a lot of TV so I have seen many games that are going out here.

“Here is another culture, another system, this thing of going to Paseo Colón and seeing the atmosphere that it is not given.”

Weird one

Robles’ so casually mentioning the fact that he visited a training session at the ground of Leeds’ biggest rivals is a pretty weird thing.

He perhaps does not know how intense the rivalry once was and if he did, he would’ve chosen to frame his words in another way.

Regardless, we’re hoping that his recent comments do not mean that he’s getting homesick as that does happen to players coming from Spain.

They have much favourable weather conditions there as compared to the United Kingdom where it’s cold even in March and snowing in different parts.

He knew he was going to play second fiddle to Illan Meslier so there cannot be too many complaints over his lack of game time at the club.

Robles is a veteran goalkeeper so he surely will be an influential figure among the youngsters at the club and they certainly will have learnt a few things from him.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
