Leeds United are hopeful that Ilia Gruev will have recovered from injury to be fit for the Whites' showdown with Coventry City, according to Leeds Live.

The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (3 April) that there is hope from those in charge at Elland Road that the Bulgarian international will be ready to play a part in Daniel Farke's side on Saturday (6 April).

Gruev hasn't played for Leeds since the March international break, where he picked up an injury in the first half of Bugalria's 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan, missing crucial Championship showdowns against Watford and Hull City.

In his place, Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu have deputised alongside Glen Kamara in midfield to help the Whites return to the automatic promotion places.

Will Ilia Gruev be fit to play for Leeds United against Coventry City?

While Ampadu and Gray have done a job in midfield, Gruev offers Leeds United an element of control from the middle of the park that few other players in the Championship are capable of and his return would be a massive boost.

While it took some time for the Bulgarian to break into Farke's first team at Elland Road, the midfielder has made himself undroppable with his recent displays in White as he has made Farke's team tick alongside Kamara.

Things are getting tight at the top of the Championship table with only two points separating the top three teams. If Leeds want to win automatic promotion this season, they're going to need their best players fit and available week in and week out.

Farke's side has shown that they can beat anyone that they will face between now and the end of the season, now, it is just a question of the Whites holding their nerve for the final weeks of the campaign and finishing the job.

With Gruev at the heart of the midfield, holding that nerve becomes an awful lot easier. Hopefully, he'll be fit and available against the Sky Blues on Saturday.
