West Ham United midfielder Kalvin Phillips "will consider" a return to Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to Dean Jones.

The England international left Elland Road for Manchester City in 2022, but having failed to make an impact at the Etihad he has proceeded to struggle whilst on loan with the Hammers this season.

Daniel Farke's Leeds side have been tipped to bring the 28-year-old back to Yorkshire this summer in a £30million move [Sunday Mirror, 31 March]. and while his current wages could be an issue, Sports Lens journalist Jones believes Phillips would be open to the switch.

As quoted by Give Me Sport on Tuesday (2 April) he said: "I think it will be the case that Phillips will consider a return to Leeds United as it would be an opportunity to get back to being himself.

"Obviously, we will have to see if Leeds make it up and how the financials work around it, but we’ve seen Jadon Sancho seek solace in an old club by going back to Dortmund, and it would make sense that the idea of Phillips going back to Leeds is considered.”

Will Leeds United sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City in the transfer window?

Leeds United have the opportunity to help Phillips get his career back on track after a difficult few years away from Elland Road, but it remains to be seen whether the Whites will be keen to pay the fee required to secure his signature.

Farke already has some impressive midfield options at his disposal with Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu all shining in the Championship. While they aren't proven in the Premier League, they deserve a chance to impress in the top flight.

If the deal can be done without breaking the bank, it would make complete sense for the Whites to get it over the line. However, Leeds cannot even begin to think about this transfer until they book their place in the Premier League.

Hopefully, Farke's side will continue to pick up results in the Championship between now and the end of the season to make an immediate return to the top flight, and then a move for Phillips can be considered.
