Leeds United forcefully move for Morrocan World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi
Leeds United are said to be forcefully moving for Morrocan World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi, who is also a long-term target of Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, according to AS Romalive.
The news plays into recent reports where Victor Orta claimed he received texts from Andrea Radrizzani about the outstanding Angers’ midfielder.
Now, the Italian outlet has confessed that Leeds United are moving with “vehemence” towards making a deal for Ounahi whose star power has skyrocketed in recent weeks.
“We are referring to Azzedine Ounahi, born in 2000 from Angers on whom Leeds is allegedly moving with some vehemence,” as quoted by asromalive.
Ounahi has proven himself to be one of the stand-out performers in the FIFA World Cup and could prove to be a savvy bit of business from Leeds.
Going off Orta’s comments and the alleged Radrizanni text, there is definitely some interest in the Morrocan midfielder and Leeds United could well make a move for him.
It’s unlikely this will be in January however, a midfielder really isn’t on the “must haves” list for the Whites right now with other problem areas needing more of a touch-up.
That being said, a switch in summer makes complete sense and the club can see whether the Morrocan maestro continues his fine World Cup form into the rest of his Ligue 1 campaign.
Signing a player off the back of a decent tournament is always tricky and Leeds would be best to wait it out until the end of the 2022/2023 season.
A move could also tie in with the potential exit of Tyler Adams, who has been linked with a move away from Elland Road in the summer.
Ounahi could be a like-for-like replacement for the American, although, it would be nice to have both of them in Jesse Marsch’s setup next year.
