Leeds United financial limitations in place as Elland Road uncertainty emerges – Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has reacted after it emerged Leeds United would have to pay nearly £45million in bonuses and transfer fees if they avoid relegation.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire took a deeper look into the published report and revealed the club will have to pay bonuses if they secure their top-flight status (personal Twitter account, 8 April).
However, Robinson has suggested this is common practice amongst Premier League clubs, with survival being the main aim.

“Clubs like Leeds when they set off at the start of the season, their number one aim is to stay in the league, so bonuses and contract structures are all performances based,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“Players will achieve the wage and bonus structure that they deserve if the club is in the Premier League. Leeds were so badly run 16 to 17 years ago so you have to put limitations in place in case the club is relegated.
“Players, staff and managers will be rewarded if the club remain in the Premier League and I think a lot of the teams in the bottom half of the table will have something very similar.”

Leeds’ survival bid certainly took a turn for the worst on Sunday after Crystal Palace blew Javi Gracia’s side away at Elland Road.
Liverpool are the next team to make the trip to West Yorkshire and the Spaniard will be desperate for his side to respond.
In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
