Leeds United fans ‘willing’ Georginio Rutter to succeed, he was ‘one of last season’s worst’ signings
Leeds United striker Georginio Rutter was one of last season’s worst signings, according to The Yorkshire Post journalist Stuart Rayner.
The attacker joined the Whites from Hoffenheim in January for a club-record £35.5million fee [Sky Sports, 15 January].
Rutter has two goals and five assists to his name this season, with one assist coming in the 4-1 home win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday (28 October).

“Crysencio Summerville and Dan James each scored twice in a storming first half which buried memories of Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at Stoke City,” Rayner wrote for The Yorkshire Post.
“Both were substituted in the second period as was Rutter, who got as big an ovation from a crowd who have sensed he needs their support.
“His £35m January signing was one of last season’s worst, the now-21-year-old unable to settle or even score. He has only notched twice this term, but Elland Road is willing him to succeed.”

Remarkable turnaround
There could be several reasons for Rutter’s remarkable turnaround in form, with the drop down to the Championship perhaps one factor.
The competition is as fierce as always this season, but it is unquestionably a lower standard than that of the Premier League, where Rutter was first introduced to English football.
Another factor is the guidance of manager Daniel Farke, who has brought exciting, attacking football to Elland Road this season.
The forward will, however, be slightly frustrated that his goals count is not as high as that of some of his teammates. The likes of Summerville, James and Joel Piroe have all been among the goals for the Whites this season.
There is, however, plenty of time for the youngster to hit his targets for the season, with Farke undoubtedly delighted at the player’s overall performances rather than focusing on his goal numbers.
Many fans were perhaps hard on the attacker when he first joined, but they are now realising just how important he is for the club.
