Leeds United fans will be delighted after Fabrizio Romano Marcelo Bielsa update

Leeds United fans will always hold Marcelo Bielsa in high regard – and Fabrizio Romano’s latest update will be music to the ears of the Elland Road faithful.

Bielsa has made no secret of his desire to return to management, with the Argentine heavily linked with the vacant Everton job towards the end of January.

Considering the affiliation Bielsa has with Leeds and the way he transformed the club, his presence at a Premier League rival would’ve been hard to take for fans of the Yorkshire side.

They potentially would’ve felt betrayed by the 67-year-old, particularly if he had joined the Merseysiders. However, on Thursday morning (30 March), the Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano revealed (via Twitter) that Bielsa is closing in on becoming the new Uruguay head coach.

“Discussions are ongoing between Marcelo Bielsa and Uruguay to become the new national team head coach. Talks are still in progress, waiting on a full agreement,” wrote Romano.

“Contract would be valid until the end of the World Cup qualifiers.”

This news will be welcomed by those in West Yorkshire. Bielsa looks set to take charge of an international side which will see Premier League interest finally die down.

He will always be a legend at Elland Road and, for now, his reputation remains untouched. Of course, there’s always a chance he could return to England but now doesn’t seem like the right moment.

If and when he is confirmed as the new national team head coach, Leeds’ fans will certainly have one eye on how Uruguay get fair on the international stage.

In other Leeds United, the Whites are now in pole position to seal their first signing under Javi Gracia despite interest from a Premier League rival.
