Leeds United fans receive positive update in pursuit of Brenden Aaronson

Leeds United are set to continue their pursuit of RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson despite changing their manager last week, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 21-year-old American international has been a star for the Austrian champions this season, helping them to the round of 16 in the Champions League.

The Whites have kept tabs on Aaronson and could have made a move in January but Salzburg wanted to keep him for their assault on the Champions League knockout rounds.

Guardian journalist Romano has shared an update on the situation and it sounds very promising for supporters.

“My answer is yes because the relationship is great,” Romano said on Que Golazo’s transfer show when asked if the arrival of Marsch edges Leeds closer.

“Let me say, and it’s good news for Leeds fans, many players speak very highly of Jesse Marsch.

“They wanted him in January with Marcelo Bielsa. And I’m sure they still want him and they will try for him in the summer. A lot of it will depend on whether Leeds stay in the Premier League or not.”

Vital months

Survival in the Premier League is obviously of the highest importance to Leeds United right now but if they needed any more motivation to achieve it, here it is.

Aaronson seems almost certain to leave Austria this summer but he won’t exchange Champions League football for the Championship.

If the Whites have any hopes of adding the 21-year-old to their squad, they have to remain a Premier League club next season.

If they do go down, someone else will come and sign Aaronson instead and they will have missed their chance to sign the American.

Thankfully though, Marsch’s arrival at Elland Road will help coerce him to Yorkshire having previously managed Aaronson in Austria.

Bielsa may not have managed to get the deal over the line but March just maybe will and that will do wonders to help endear him to the supporters similarly to how his predecessor did.

In other Leeds United news, one of the more popular backroom staff has followed Bielsa out of the door at Elland Road.
