Bielsa translator Clavijo confirms whether he's staying at Leeds United
Andres Clavijo, Marcelo Bielsa’s translator, is leaving Leeds United in the wake of the Argentine’s sacking at the weekend.
Clavijo took to Instagram on Wednesday [2 March] to confirm that he’s on his way out of Thorp Arch.
As well as assisting Bielsa in speaking to the media, Clavijo was also a first-team performance analyst at Elland Road.
Writing on Instagram, he said: “Thank you for the overwhelming messages of support.
“I am sad to report that I too will be leaving the club alongside Marcelo and the rest of his staff.
“It has been an incredible two years at the club.
“I was treated as one of your own from the first moment, and I am immensely grateful for that.
“The club and the fans will forever hold a special place in my heart.
“Thank you to all the staff, players, and fans for some unforgettable memories.”
Who’s cutting onions?
Clavijo was an incredibly popular member of Bielsa’s coaching staff.
He was more-or-less the face of Bielsa’s press conferences with the analyst translating Bielsa’s Spanish answers to England and journalist’s English questions to Spanish.
Clavijo was a vital part of the last two years and there’s no denying that Bielsa couldn’t have done his job properly at Elland Road without him.
It’s a massive shame that he’s moving on but it’s totally understandable.
Leeds do need to have analysts but new manager Jesse Marsch may have his own team while if Bielsa gets a job anywhere else in England in the near future – who knows? – Clavijo will be at the top of the list.
As well as Bielsa and his assistants who’ve also left Thorp Arch, we wish Andres all the best in the future and we’re sure he’ll be able to find himself more work soon enough.
In other Leeds United news, two players are highly likely to quit Leeds in the summer based on Bielsa’s sacking.
